Furthermore, thanks to this year’s lunar eclipse, the moon will also become a blood moon. This happens when Earth’s moon is in a total lunar eclipse. Because of this, a the white moon ends up in the Earth’s shadow leaving behind a red ring of light in the night sky.

In a public release, NASA stated:

May 26 brings a total lunar eclipse. Over several hours, the Moon will pass through Earth’s shadow, causing it to darken and usually become reddish in colour. The red colour comes from sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere – a ring of light created by all the sunrises and sunsets happening around our planet at that time.

According to Space.com, the eclipse would be visible starting 4:47 EDT (8:47 GMT) on May 26. Moreover, the best places to view the spectacle would be in Australia, New Zealand, and Eastern Asia.
