Willie Revillame encountered financial challenge because of his show
Wowowin host Willie Revillame revealed that he let go of this huge amount of money because of his game show on GMA-7.
In a recent episode, Kuya Wil recalled the time before the pandemic. The studio was so alive and the routine starts early in the morning because people are already waiting outside in order to be included in the audience.
The atmosphere was so lively back then and the veteran TV host misses those days. He also reminisced the times when he bonds with his co-hosts and the production staff.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everything changed only a few of them are in the studio. Willie Revillame also looked back at the time when he started the show in the Kapuso network, based on the article in Bandera.
The show started back in May of 2015. At that point of his recollection, the veteran host said that after a few weeks of airing, he thought of discontinuing the show.
“Nagsimula ako rito, May 10, ako ho ang nagpo-produce noon, ako. Pera ko ‘yun, every Sunday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.. Dumating ang time na after mga ilang linggo, sabi ko, stop ko na, dahil wala kasi akong marketing, eh. Walang nagbebenta ng programa,” Kuya Wil said.
He added that it reached to point that he already spent P140 million and he was not earning. “Kasi nagbabayad ho ako ng blocktime, eh, more than 2 million for 1 hour. Isipin n’yo sa 2 million, 2.2 yata, sa isang buwan ho, eh 8.8 million ‘yun. Wala ka pang ilaw,” the game show host explained.
He stressed that this is how difficult being a producer of a show is. Because of losing millions of his money, Kuya Wil talked to GMA’s management that he will no longer continue Wowowin. When he was about to go to Tagaytay with a thought of quitting showbiz, he received a call.
At first he was offered to just pay 50 percent of the show’s expenses but he refused as it was still huge. Then, GMA-7 offered to produce his show, Willie Revillame said yes to this.
