Village Chairman Earned Praise for Collecting Constituents’ Trash Personally
VILLAGE CHAIRMAN – A barangay executive goes viral and earned praise online for collecting the trash of his constituents personally.
On Facebook, Aa barangay chairman from Manila went viral recently after he was spotted walking around their area, Barangay 374 Zone 38 in Sta. Cruz, Manila carrying a trash cart full of garbage to help the residents and also keep their area clean.
The chairman of the said village, Bong Viray, not only collects garbage but also sweeps the area, according to Janeel Basco Abrea, the netizen who photographed Viray while collecting garbages.
“Nung nag-lockdown po samin ng four days, ginawa po ni chairman ‘yan. Nagwawalis din po ‘yan si chairman. Umagang-umaga nakikita ko siyang kumukuha ng basura sa bahay-bahay. Wala siyang kasama kumuha sa road namin, ‘yung iba (opisyal ng barangay) kasi nasa kabilang road,” said Janeel.

Chairman Viray was featured in Net 25’s “Mata ng Agila” program and here he talked about his viral photos. According to Chairman Viray, he is not the only one who collects garbage but also other barangay officials.
“Hindi lang naman ako ‘yun, lahat kami, lalo na ‘yung mga street sweeper. Kaya lang bilang pinuno ng isang barangay, kinakailangang ikaw ang mauna. Kami talaga ‘yung nagtatapon ng basura nila. Kaso nagkataon, hindi ko naman alam na na-picturan ako. Ayun, nag-viral na. Kaya ang tawag sa akin ngayon, ‘chairman basura,” said Chairman Viray.
