Imminent Volcanic Eruption Warning On Caribbean Island

Residents Of Caribbean Island Ordered To Evacuate Due To “Imminent Volcanic Eruption” Warning

IMMINENT VOLCANIC ERUPTION – More than 16,000 residents were given the warning to evacuate the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent.

According to authorities, the La Soufrière volcano could erupt at any given moment. As such, residents residing in the “Red Zone”, covering the northeast and northwest regions of the island were advised to leave.

Meanwhile, footage taken from the volcano already reveals smoke coming out the top. This prompted St. Vincent’s emergency management office to raise alert level Red, meaning a volcanic eruption is believed to be “imminent”.

However, evacuation effort were being thwarted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves announced that residents must get vaccinated for them to get aboard cruise ships to escape the island or seek refuge on another.

Fortunately, other islands near St. Vincent such as St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, and Granada said they were willing to take in evacuees. Meanwhile, Gonsalves said residents may use their ID Cards to travel if they don’t have passports.
