Ivermectin Granted Compassionate Special Permit For Use In A Hospital

IVERMECTIN – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted a hospital a compassionate special permit for “Ivermectin” an anti-parasitic drug commonly used on animals.

Since the early days of 2021, the name Ivermectin made rounds in select groups in the Philippines. Initially, it started with zoom meetings promoting the product but now, it recently got its spotlight.

Furthermore, according to a report from Inquirer, FDA Director-General Eric Domigo said: “Meron na po kaming na-grant dahil nga po ang ivermectin ay isang investigational product”.

He stated that there are currently clinical trials ongoing studying its use against COVID-19. Moreover, he noted that there was a hospital that applied for a compassionate special permit use of Ivermectin. “Ito po ay na-grant na ngayong araw na ito“, he added.

However, when asked which hospital was granted the special permits, he declined to answer “out of patient privacy”. Still, both the Department of Health (DOH) and FDA said they don’t recommend using Ivermectin for COVID-19 as no evidence supports its efficacy.

Additionally, the World Health Organization also advises against Ivermectin for COVID-19 relief. According to WHO, there is an apparent absence of statistically relevant evidence of its effectiveness against the coronavirus.
