Bureau Of Customs Warns Against Fake COVID-19 Vaccines In PH

FAKE COVID-19 VACCINES IN PH – Unfortunately, the Philippines is home to an entire slew of counterfeit items. Furthermore, there are always bad actors trying to manipulate the vulnerable.

Put those two together and you’d have a major problem, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic. As such, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) warned the public against fake COVID-19 vaccines circulating the Philippines.

Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte allowed private firms to procure their own vaccines. Because of this, private firms now have the opportunity to quicken vaccine procurement for their employees.

However, this paves the way for potential bad actors to capitalize on the situation. With this, the BoC stated:

With the standing directive by the national government to authorize private sectors to import COVID-19 vaccines, unscrupulous entities might take advantage to profit during the pandemic by illegally manufacturing counterfeit vaccines locally

Furthermore, the agency emphasized that Filipinos should receive vaccines from government-accredited clinics and health care centers. Additionally, the public was urged to report the unauthorized sale of COVID-19 vaccines and other counterfeit products.

Currently, the Philippines is expected to receive over 2.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Moreover, it aims to vaccinate at least 70 million residents to achieve herd immunity against the virus.
