Child-friendly Instagram Featuring Parental Control Explored
CHILD-FRIENDLY INSTAGRAM – Kids on the gram can be a bit concerning especially with the content readily available.
For the longest time, parents have been concerned about the difficulties in monitoring their children’s social media consumption. As such, Instagram said it plans to develop a version of the app offering parental control for children under 13.
According to an article from Inqurier, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, stated:
“Kids are increasingly asking their parents if they can join apps that help them keep up with their friends.” Furthermore, he said that he wanted to create a version of Instagram similar to Messenger kids.
Currently, Facebook and Instagram allow users older than 13-years-old to join their platforms. However, verifying their age is just as easy as a click of a button. But, Instagram this week showcased new technology that could prevent underaged children from creating accounts.
More importantly, they added a feature where adults can’t contact underage children they don’t know. If the technology launches, Instagram would utilize artificial intelligence to determine a user’s age at sign-up.
