PH Records 50% Spike In Cases, Similar To August Peak Last Year
PH RECORDS 50% SPIKE IN CASES – Data from the Department of Health (DOH) revealed a concerning surge in the recent number of COVID-19 cases.
Previously, the Philippines saw a spike of around 4,000 daily cases on August, 2020. Afterward, a year since the lockdowns began, the country is seeing similar results.
Earlier, OCTA research group predicted 5,000 daily COVID-19 cases by the end of March. However, their prediction came earlier than expected with 4,899 new cases reported last Sunday.

Furthermore, the increase in the number of cases may also be attributed to the increased testing capacity of the country. As per the article, the Philippines surpassed the 10% limit of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) minimum testing capacity of 40,000 daily tests.

Meanwhile, easing of travel restrictions and reopening the economy amid the surge may potentially contribute to further cases says OCTA. Additionally, the Philippines also confirmed the presence of “mutations of concern” such as the UK, Brazil, and South African COVID-19 variant that are more contagious compared to previous strains.
