A report from Inquirer says that the incident occurred at 4 AM on February 28 as officers were monitoring real-time crime cameras, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The cop, identified as Thomas Driscoll, along with a woman, were walking across the Las Vegas Strip when 33-year-old Brandon Leath yelled at the two and followed them.

This led to a verbal fight, which escalated further. Leath then knocked Driscoll with a single punch. The cop went unconscious, sustaining head and neck injuries.

Leath fled away from the scene but was quickly caught by officers and charged for open murder. Leath is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

The cop was pronounced dead when he was taken to the Sunrise Hospital in the city. The blunt force that caused his injuries caused his death.

The suspect was already known for knocking someone unconscious with a single punch before, based on the report.

The suspect was called by an anonymous person who knew the former as a “ticking time bomb”. The person was attacked by the suspect in a convenience store but survived to tell the tale.

“He knocked me out so now I have to see a doctor about my possible concussion”

Based on the report, the survivor said that if authorities had only done something to address his concerns about the suspect, the cop’s death could have been prevented.
