Comelec Receives Over 1.3 Million Applications for Voters Registration Since Started
The Commission on Election (Comelec) has already received over 1.3 million applications for voters’ registration since Sept. 1, 2020.
According to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, they have received 1.9 million applications since the registration activities has started on September 1, 2020. Manila Bulletin report, there are more than 2 million Filipinos have already filed their applications for voter registration for the 2022 election.
“In addition, there are also some 500,000 that applied back in January 2020,” he said in an interview during their voter registration information drive in Quezon City, Friday, February 26.
However, Jimenez revealed that the figure announced was still far from their four million target. As such, he encourages qualified voters of the country to register.
“The numbers are still not enough because our target is four million. Do not be afraid (to register). Since we resumed registration, there have been zero cases of transmission registered in our Comelec offices. So it is safe to get registered,” said Jimenez.
He also reminded the public to follow the minimum health standards when going local Comelec offices. Qualified voters may register at the Office of the Election Officer (OEOs) from Tuesdays to Saturdays (including holidays) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Registration activities for the 2022 polls started in January 20, 2020 but was suspended on March 9, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed on Sept. 1, 2020 and will run until Sept. 30, 2021.
