Twitter Considering Charge For Special Content From High-Profile Accounts

CHARGE FOR SPECIAL CONTENT – One of the biggest social media platforms on the internet – Twitter, is considering a “subscription service”.

Much like YouTube Premium, Twitter is now floating the idea of “Super Follows”. This could make Twitter a platform for more investment opportunities and audience funding.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, a Twitter spokesperson said:

Exploring audience funding opportunities like Super Follows will allow creators and publishers to be directly supported by their audience and will incentivize them to continue creating content that their audience loves

With the “Super Follows” program, fans can now directly support their favorite artist, celebrity, or entertainer for exclusive content. Furthermore, fans could also receive virtual badges and newsletters.

However, Creative Strategies analyst Carolina Milanesi had some reservations about the move. According to her, sites such as YouTube, which has a paid service makes sense as hours of creative decision making is done on each video.

But, she says that Tweets on Twitter doesn’t really amount to the same level of effort. Still, no timeline was presented for when “Super Follows” might be implemented on the site.

Moreover, Twitter also planned to make more users monetizable by 2023. As such, they are also considering to create “communities” that cater to specific topics similar to Facebook Groups.

Currently, tech powerhouses such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter make the most revenue out of digital advertising. As per the article, Twitter also aims to reach $7.5 billion in revenue come 2023, double the $3.7 billion it cot last year.
