Manila Government to Build Residential Building in Tondo for Homeless Families

The local government of Manila City will establish residential building in Tondo that will shelter homeless families living in the street.

The Vitas High Rise Residential Building along Mel Lopez Boulevard in Tondo, Manila is purposed to rehome families who are living in the street of the City. The groundbreaking was led by the Manila 1st District Rep. Manny Lopez.

According to the report of Manila Bulletin, the building is a two-phase development that will be built on a 3.5-hectare land. The first phase can accommodate 770 residential units.

It will cover 9,183.56 sq. m.  that could establish three 19-story housing buildings. The residential project will elevate the quality of living of poor families in Manila.

Aside from that, Lopez said that they will also provide employment opportunities to residents of the city. “This project will provide employment to Tondo residents who can be part of the construction.”

He said in a statement, “This is a great start in our efforts to rise again from the economic crisis brought by the pandemic. He also said that this project is his dream to the resident of Tondo.

“Here in Tondo, which is the unfortunate symbol of poverty in Manila, we will rise as one with comfortable living. This is my dream for the residents of Tondo. And while we do the construction and on-site housing, I am also focusing on the cash rental subsidy for our Manila residents,” Lopez said.
