Man On Probation Arrested In Drug Bust In San Jose Town, Antique
SAN JOSE TOWN – A man who is on probation for an illegal drug offense was nabbed in a buy-bust operation in San Jose town, Antique.
A poseur-buyer was able to purchase from the drug suspect, identified as Garry Garcenila of Barangay Malaiba in the said town, two sachets of suspected illegal drugs for P2,500, according to Panay News.
The sting operation was conducted on Del Pilar Street, Barangay 8 on Sunday afternoon, February 21.
Also retrieved from the suspect were eight sachets of suspected illegal drugs and P4,000 cash, according to the police.
Major Benjo Clarite of the local police station reported that Garcenila was arrested in 2009 for drug pushing and secured a probation years after his conviction.
Garcenila will face new charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as well as violating his probation.
Based on the report, probation is a privilege granted by the court to a person convicted of a criminal offense to remain in the community instead of actually going to prison.
When probation is granted, the probationer must report to the probation officer at least once a month and not make another offense.
Ifthese conditions of probation are violated, the probation officer probes the alleged violation. If such violation is established, a report is submitted to the court.
Depending on the nature and seriousness of the said violation, there can be modification of the condition or revocation of probation by the judge.
