US Nears 500,000 Coronavirus Deaths Approaching Dark Milestone
US NEARS 500,000 CORONAVIRUS DEATHS – The United States had recently lowered the number of daily COVID-19 cases. However, the outbreak is far from over.
Despite the lowered cases, the US is still nearing a dark milestone of 500,000 deaths due to COVID-19. Meanwhile, with the vaccines against the virus available, officials scramble to immunize the population.
According to infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, the coronavirus pandemic was “nothing like we’ve ever been through in the last 102 years since the 1918 influenza pandemic”. He added that’s it’s a terrible situation that the country is still going through.
Currently, the United States has reported over 28 million cases of the new coronavirus. Of that number, more than 497,862 have succumbed to the deadly disease despite hospitalization and daily average fatalities fell to its lowest levels.
According to an article from Inquirer, the pandemic took an entire year off the average life expectancy in the US since World War Two. Additionally, Fauci emphasized that while the drop is “terrific”, the number of COVID-19 cases is still at a high level.
Furthermore, less than 15% of the U.S. population had been inoculated with the vaccines. Along with this, easing restrictions and allowing face-to-face classes in some states despite the high numbers sparked yet another debate for safety.
