COUGHING A CRIME – Amid the coronavirus pandemic, certain health protocols are imposed. However, coughing doesn’t necessarily mean you have COVID-19.

But, what if you intentionally coughed at someone while shouting “Corona!”?

This is the curious case that Denmark’s top court is about to decide on. Certainly, in the pandemic, hoax and scares like that shouldn’t be taken lightly. As such, the court would now begin an appeal hearing to decide if the acts constitutes threatening behavior.

The defendant of the case was identified as a 20-year-old man who was arrested in March 2020. During this time, the country was still under full lockdown.

According to the prosecutors, the man subjected police into “ruthless and thoughtless actions”. Luckily, he was tested negative for the new coronavirus.

The man was first acquitted in a local court. There, he was later convicted of the offense at Denmark’s Western High Court. Afterward, during his Supreme Court appeal against the conviction, the prosecutors wanted a jail term of three-five months for his stunt with the police.

Meanwhile, authorities say this wasn’t the only incident of coughing directed toward police. Last year, amid public discontent against the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, there were cases spread across Denmark similar to 20-year-old’s.
