According to the Manila Bulletin, the island in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte has recently reopened to tourists from Eastern Visayas after nearly a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

San Pablo Island, also known as Pong Gamay, showcases its captivating white sand beach, scenic sights, and unspoiled waters.

Only a 3-hour drive from Tacloban City, the island is akin to the famous Dead Sea, the landlocked salt lake between Israel and Jordan due to its high salinity, which makes one float for a while.

San Pablo offers tourists to swim or dive with schools of fish or enjoy the view of corals while staying in one of the fishing cottages, which can be rented at prices ranging from P200 to P650.

Furthermore, guests are reminded to coordinate with the Municipal Tourism Office at least three days before their planned visit through 0931-728-5410.

The island’s tourism office is open from Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. There are no transactions during weekends and holidays. Walk-in guests are also not allowed.

Based on the report, guests are required to present a valid identification card, updated medical certificate, and the Southern Leyte QR Code.

Overnight stay is allowed given that health protocols like wearing of face masks and face shields, are followed.
