Just One COVID-19 Case Caused A Massive Lockdown In Western Australia’s Capital
AUSTRALIA LOCKDOWN – Detecting just one COVID-19 case in Pert caused the Capital of Western Australia to place 2 Million residents under strict lockdown.
Instead of waiting around to confirm community transmissions, authorities in Perth declared a strict COVID-19 lockdown on Monday. Since then, no new cases have been found following the discovery of a COVID-19 positive security guard of a hotel.
According to an article from Inquirer, the hotel was used to quarantine repatriates who contracted the coronavirus. Furthermore, authorities noted that 66 individuals have already been declared as close contacts of the guard.
Additionally, tests were already conducted with none of the close contacts testing positive for the virus. As per the article, Western Australia state Premier Mark McGowan said:
In total 13 close contacts have now tested negative and of those 11 high-risk contacts have been moved into hotel quarantine as an extra precaution
Due to quick responses, Australia had managed to contain the spread of COVID-19 in a massive scale. Moreover, the number of cases in the country has been limited to 29,000 with the deaths peaking at 909.
Along with this, Australia is also set to roll-out its vaccine campaign this month. Currently, a total of $4.4 billion has been set aside to acquire a vaccine to inoculated the country’s population.
“The strategy is backed by an initial allocation of around A$1.9 billion in new support for the vaccine roll-out. This is on top of more than $4.4 billion allocated for vaccines purchases“, said Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
