Alleged Abu Sayyaf Sub Leader Slain In Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – An alleged sub-leader of the Abu Syyaf Group was recently slain in Zamboanga City after a failed attempt on evading arrest.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News, the fatality was identified as Arrasid Adjing Halissam, also known under the alias Guru Ara.

Halissam was armed with a caliber .45 pistol and attempted to evade arrest during the implementation of a search warrant in Margarita Drive, Barangay San Roque, according to a report from the police.

The suspect allegedly fired at the police, which prompted the latter to shoot him to death.

Halissam was identified as a trusted aide of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, as well as the facilitator of late Malaysian international terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir, who is also known as Marwan.

Marwan was slain in a police operation in January 2015 in an ensuing gun battle between state forces and rebels. The gunfight resulted in the death of 44 policemen.

Police also said that Halissam was involved in several kidnapping and bombing incidents in the Zamboanga Peninsula. He was also allegedly involved in the recruitment of new members of Daulah Islamiya., based on the report.

Retrieved in the area was a caliber .45 pistol and components of an improvised explosive device or IED.
