Starving Dog Tries Eating Own Tail After Owner Left It Locked Up

STARVING DOG TRIES EATING OWN TAIL – A heartbreaking scene transpired as a dog was left starving inside a dirty cage.

The neglected dog was so hungry that it even tried to eat its own tail. According to an article from Daily Star, the dog was named “Rodney”, a lurcher cross who was found locked inside his dog cage in a back garden.

A real estate agent who went to the house to bring an eviction notice discovered Rodney in the back garden. As such, the RSPCA was immediately contacted.

Sadly, the dog was so hungry that it started munching on its own tail. It was visibly clear that parts of his tail had already been chewed off. Luckily, the dog was emaciated and taken from the property to the Manchester Animal Hospital.

Due to his hunger, his bones were already protruding. Rodney’s tail was also left badly damaged and his legs were sore due to the damp kennel he was staying in. Sadly, the tail was so damaged that it required amputation half-way.

Despite all of this, Rodney managed to recover back to full health. Now, Rodney is looking for a home that he could finally call his own. As per the article, the nurses who took care of him said:

Poor Rodney was so stressed with being left on his own for such long periods of time without interaction that he chewed his own tail and had to have it amputated halfway up…

But, it seems that Rodney has recovered enough that he already wags his tail enthusiastically. Furthermore, nurses also said that Rodney gets along with other dogs as well.

However, she emphasized that due to the trauma Rodney had with his initial conditions, special care and patience was needed. As such, Alana Bibby, welfare team leader of the hospital said its foster parents should “treat him like a puppy and start from scratch”.
