Interior Secretary Eduardo Año urged the PNP to mount the said campaign after unprecedented flooding that occurred in many parts of the country amid the current typhoons, according to PhilStar.

Año ordered PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas at a management committee meeting.

“In addition to war on drugs and criminality, one of the priorities of the PNP is war on illegal logging,”

This came from a statement from Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) spokesman Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, who also said that Año blamed logging activities in Cagayan and Isabela provinces for the massive flooding in the region.

“Illegal loggers in Cagayan have not stopped. One of Secretary Año’s orders is an intensified campaign against illegal logging – to be spearheaded by the PNP,”

President Duterte earlier directed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to probe into mining and logging activities in the region after most parts in Cagayan Valley were flooded.

Duterte vowed to improve against the said activities to prevent a repeat of the disaster.

About 24 were dead after the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses and massive flooding in Region 2, based on the report.

The DILG and its attached and the local government units (LGUs) also pledged support for a national tree planting initiative, which involves the planting of 200 million trees.
