Unauthorized Vaccine: Año Says Only One Cabinet Member Vaccinated

Año Says Only One Cabinet Member Given Unauthorized Vaccine

UNAUTHORIZED VACCINE – Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said that only only one Cabinet member received a COVID-19 vaccine ahead of FDA approval.

Recently, the government received heavy backlash after reports that members of the cabinet, PSG, and AFP already received a COVID-19 vaccine. Previously, the government said health workers and frontliners would be given priority for the vaccine. However, this may not be the case.

Additionally, President Rodrigo Duterte also stated that uniformed officers would be given priority as they will handle vaccine distribution.

Meanwhile, Año took back his previous statements and said only one Cabinet member was given an unauthorized coronavirus vaccination.

According to an article from Philstar, Año stated:

First of all, I’d like to correct myself. I only know just one member of the Cabinet, but I cannot disclose his identity because I don’t want to violate his right to privacy…I’m not sure actually about the vaccine, but I think the president mentioned that it’s Sinopharm

Furthermore, Año emphasized that he sees nothing illegal. As such, he explained that what is prohibited is the selling and distribution of these vaccines without regulatory approval.

It’s just as simple as soldiers protecting the president who want to be inoculated and they’re able to get some donation on it and the country that provided it has an approved EUA (emergency use authorization). It’s that simple. Let’s not complicate things“, he added.

However, the FDA’s director-general had already expressed his dismay upon hearing news that the PSG and AFP had already received vaccinations for COVID-19.
