Six NPA Rebels Surrendered To Army In Agusan Del Sur
AGUSAN DEL SUR – Six armed members of the New People’s Army have surrendered to the 26th Infantry Battalion in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur.
26IB commander Lieutenant Colonel Reynald Romel A. Goce further vowed that the government, via the efforts of the NTF-ELCAC, is winning against terrorists, adding that there will be no more anniversaries for them, according to a report from Manila Bulletin.
Second Lieutenant Cecille C. Tappa, a Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer from 26IB said that six rebels have surrendered to them so they could be with their families for the New Year’s Day celebration.
Village officials of Barangay Balit in San Luis town, who are part of the Barangay Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (BTF- ELCAC), accompanied the rebels to the 26IB headquarters on Monday.
Retrieved from the surrendered were one M16 Armalite rifle, one carbine rifle, 2 caliber 38 revolver, two caliber .45 pistol, one KG9, four magazines, assorted live ammunition, and CPP-NPA flag.
Based on the report, Goce welcomed the six and assured them of livelihood and cash support via the government’s Enhance Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
“These surrenderees have already realized the futility of their armed struggle. We welcome them back to the fold of the law,”
“The continuous surrender only means that the CPP-NPA is weakening and the AFP will continue its duty in ending the conflict,”
26IB is currently conducting custodial debriefing to the surrenderees and they will be processed for enrollment in the E-CLIP benefits.
