Film Producers to take legal actions against movie pirates after three entries of the MMFF 2020 were victimized by piracy.

Just the first-day screening of the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), social media syndicates immediately pirated some of the films participating in it. Movie pirate posted copies of the movies and links that are free to watch.

As a result, the producers immediately took action against the illegal dissemination of the entirety of their MMFF entries in conjunction with the plan to file a corresponding case against the people involved.

According to the report of Bandera, Dondon Monteverde on ABS-CBN, the head of Upstream.ph who is the online partner of MMFF, said “We are all working on the prosecution of the illegal copying of the entries with the producers and their lawyers, the NBI and the Intellectual Property Commission (IPC).”

He added that they are working double-time to identify the suspect since Christmas day, the start of the Filmfest showing. He also said that aside from piracy, posers also post links with blank content just to “pabida lang.”

“Yung iba, bubuksan mo iyong link na pinost nila, wala namang laman. So there are also posers. Pabida lang. We also have to consider the location of persons of interest, since MMFF entries are available worldwide through Upstream,” the producer said.

Earlier, the director of Paulo’s entry in the MMFF, Antoinette Jadaone, also appealed to those who posted pirated entries via Instagram. “We’re asking as nicely as possible: please don’t reproduce and distribute the film illegally.

Paulo also reacted on social media about his thoughts. On the Facebook account of Black Sheep, the hero of “Fan Girl” expressed his resentment which is still hotly debated today because of the fearless display of his manhood.
