The White Tiger Movie – Here are the details you need to know about the upcoming movie from Netflix.
Popular streaming service Netflix is set to release a new movie that is based on Aravind Adiga’s 2008 novel of the same name. Based on the article from Harper’s Bazaar, the movie is about the journey of a man from being a chauffeur to having his way to success as an entrepreneur.
It tackles the sensitive issue of corruption and class structure in society. Adarsh Gourav, a rising star in India, plays the lead character Balram Halwai, who is a driver for the wealthy Ashok (Rajkummar Rao) and Pinky Madam (Priyanka Chopra Jonas).
In an interview, Chopra Jonas, who is also one of the executive producers of the movie along with Ava DuVernay and Mukul Deora, said that Gourav is, “one of the most talented newcomers I’ve ever worked with, and one of the most remarkable performances I’ve seen in a long time.”
She also said that this role made her so excited as she never played this kind of dramatic role in Hollywood. “That was really interesting for me to play, considering I’m an Indian,” the beauty queen-turned-actress said.
Ramin Bahrani, who wrote the screenplay, is also the director of the movie. Among his popular works in the past are Man Push Cart (2005), Chop Shop (2007), 99 Homes (2014), and Fahrenheit 451 (2018). He has long been friends with Adiga in college. “I thought it was amazing. I always wanted to make a film of it. I’m grateful he trusted me to do it,” Bahrani shared.
The White Tiger is set to be released in selected cinemas next year but it will start streaming on Netflix on January 22.
