Western Visayas Troops, Cops To Stay Vigilant Ahead Reds’ Anniversary
WESTERN VISAYAS – Government troops and cops in Western Visayas are currently on high alert for attacks by CPP ahead of its 52nd anniversary.
According to a report from Panay News, Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson Major Cenon Pancito III said that they are ready to counter possible offensive by the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, against government security forces and vital installations in Region 6.
Pancito said that rebels have launched huge attacks against cops and soldiers in the past in dates surrounding their founding anniversary.
“Kapag anniversary nila (CPP) ay nagla-launch sila ng atrocities. Hindi natin papayagan ‘yan,”
The latest attacks done b the communist group include that in Barangay Balicua, Tubungan, Iloilo, where a landmine hit a police patrol vehicle. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.
Pancito added that the 3ID, which operates in Panay and Neros, had deployed personel in the entire region to launch offensive operations against the reds.
Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda said that for his part, he ordered al police units to increase vigilance, based on the report.
“Never be complacent. All policemen should be in their posts or in their stations,”
The government, as well as the CPP-NPA will not declare a ceasfire during the holiday season.
The Philippine Army did not recommend the ceasfire to President Duerte, adding that the reds has shown insincerity and unfaithfulness to the ceasefire in the past.
