Recently, an unfortunate altercation between a policeman and his neighbors escalated leading to the deaths of two civilians, Sonya and Frank Gregorio. In broad daylight, while knowing he was being recorded, Police Officer Jonel Nuezca shot Sonya and Frank.

It’s rather unfortunate that such an incredible song from an iconic Kpop group would trend this way. Now, netizens, especially Filipinos who are aware of the issue, say that they can never listen to the song again.

For some, 2NE1’s “I don’t care” quickly turned into a ruthless reminder of the existence of police brutality within the Philippines. Meanwhile, others view the song as a symbol of bravery and standing up for what’s right.

Still, for many, “I don’t care” would never sound the same again as it’s now embedded as a constant reminder of the gruesome fate Sonya Gregorio had at the hands of Jonel Nuezca.

After killing Sonya and Frank, Nuezca reportedly fled the scene but later surrendered to the authorities. Currently, local police said they are preparing to file a case against Nuezca. However, many are doubtful that justice would be served.
