MONOCEROS CONSTELLATION – In this topic, we are going to know and learn about the constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn.
It is a constellation in the northern sky. It means “the Unicorn” in Latin and is represented by the mythical single-horned, horse-like creature.
It was introduced by Dutch astronomer and cartographer Petrus Plancius from the observations of Dutch navigators in the 17th century.
Monoceros is not associated to fill the area between two large constellations, Orion and Hydra.
It is the 35th largest constellation in size which occupies an area of 482 square degrees. It can be found in NQ2, the second quadrant in the northern hemisphere.
It belongs to the Orion family of constellations, along with Canis Major, Canis Minor, Lepus and Orion.
The meteor showers that are associated with the constellation are the December Monocerids and the Alpha Monocerids.
