Kabataan Partylist Files Complaint Against NTF-ELCAC Officials Over Red-tagging

Kabataan Partylist Representative Sarah Elago files a complaint against NTF-ELCAC officials over red-tagging practices.

Sarah Elago filed an administrative case in the Office of the Ombudsman against officials of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) for allegedly “maliciously attacking” her and other progressive legislators.

“The NTF-ELCAC has been using people’s money to maliciously attack progressive individuals and groups, including the youth,” according to Elago, who as part of the Makabayan Bloc in the House is dubbed by the ultra-rightist group front of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

According to the report of Manila Bulletin, Elago filed a complaint against Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command Chief Lt. Gen. Elago accompanied by her lawyer Tony La Viña, said the officials have committed grave misconduct as she accused the said officials of actively slandering her on social media and other public communication platforms.

Although there were attacks made through the personal accounts of the said officials, Elago said that it is still supported by government institutions because they use the official logo of the institutions they represent as well as their official title.

“By red-tagging us, the government through the NTF-ELCAC not only discredits our legislative work and diverts attention away from pressing issues. It also puts at risk our lives and the lives of those they work with,” said Elago.

The Kabataan Partylist also said that it will not remain silent in the face of ongoing attacks by state agents on our name and the safety of our members. They said that filing a case is a way for young people to fight these attacks.
