Here Are Some Facts About Bonifacio Day You Need To Know About

BONIFACIO DAY FACTS – To Celebrate Bonifacio Day, here are some things you might have not known about the Father of the Katipunan, Andres Bonifacio.

To many, Dr. Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio were two sides of the same coin. Rizal was a pacifist who denounced violence. However, it would be an understatement to say that he did not want to fight for the freedom of his people. Meanwhile, Bonifacio was revolutionary. He believed in a more hands-on approach to the revolution, taking his fight straight to the battlefields.

But, to the surprise of many, Bonifacio was more than that. He was actually a writer and an actor. Among the best examples of his writing prowess was seen in “Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa” (Love for the Fatherland).

Additionally, Bonifacio was a theater actor before he established the Katipunan. In fact, he was featured in several moro-moro plays. Furthermore, his favorite character to play was Bernardo Carpio.

Also, contrary to popular belief, Bonifacio came from a middle-class family with his mother working as a supervisor in a cigarette factory and his father directly working under the gobernadorcillo. Bonifacio also had a job as a bodeguero and a warehouse supervisor.

Moreover, Bonifacio declared independence for the first time while inside a cave. He, along with his fellow Katipuneros, first declared Philippine Independence inside the Pamitinan cave in Montalban on April 12, 1895. Currently, Montalban changed its name to Rodriguez Town, in Rizal.

Bonifacio and his Katipuneros etched on the cave walls “Long Live Philippine Independence!”.
