It is a large Northern constellation which is named after the vain and boastful queen in Greek mythology Cassiopeia. It is nicknamed the W constellation due to its easily recognizable prominent W asterism that is formed by its five brightest stars.

According to Constellation Guides, it is the 25th largest constellation in the night sky and occupies an area of 598 square degrees. It can be found in NQ1, the first quadrant in the northern hemisphere.

It belongs to the Perseus family of constellations with Andromeda, Auriga, Cepheus, Cetus, Lacerta, Pegasus, Perseus, and Triangulum. The Perseid meteor shower is associated with Cassiopeia.

In Greek Mythology, she is the wife of King Cepheus of Ethiopia. She once boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, who were enraged by the queen’s comments and appealed to Poseidon to punish Cassiopeia for her boastfulness.
