Sotto Wants Congratulations For Medal Haul In Recent SEA Games
CONGRATULATIONS INSTEAD OF INVESTIGATIONS – Senate President Vicente Sotto III wants lawmakers to congratulate the success of the recent South East Asian Games.
As the SEA Games preparations took place, several alleged anomalies were exposed. As such, lawmakers like Senator Risa Hontiveros pushed for a probe on the SEA Games last December.
However, Sotto wasn’t privy to this idea. According to an article from Inquirer, the Senate President said:
We garnered an unprecedented medal haul in the recent SEA Games and instead of Congratulations, we will reward the people behind with investigations? Huwag ganun.
Earlier this week, Hontiveros cited evidence that the joint venture agreement (JVA) with a Malaysian development firm was “fake”. Hontiveros stated that the “venture” for the construction of sports facilities in New Clark City potentially had anomalies worth investigating.
Meanwhile, Sotto emphasized that the Office of the Ombudsman may investigate the matter if warranted. As per the article, he said:
May Ombudsman naman, if warranted… Ombudsman ang mag-investigate. Pwede din sa kanila file complaint.
Furthermore, Senator Pia Cayetano, former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s sister also lashed out at Hontiveros for citing possible irregularities in the P9.5 billion funding for the establishment of sports facilities.
