Hindi Kaagad Sumusunod Ang Kababayan Natin” – OCD Asec on Ulysses

Hindi Kaagad Sumusunod Ang Kababayan Natin Says OCD Asec. Monilla

TYPHOON ULYSSES – Following cries for help and rescue, an official from OCD says “hindi kaagad sumusunod ang kababayan natin”.

Ulysses caused severe flooding to areas in Luzon, especially Marikina. In fact, Ulysses’ rainfall was so intense that it caused the Marikina River’s water level to surpass that of Ondoy in 2009. Previously, Ondoy caused the river’s water level to rise to 21.5 meters. Currently, Ulysses increased the water level to 21.9 meters.

Because of this, intense flooding hit Marikina forcing people to find refuge on their rooftops. Furthermore, not only humans were affected but also pets such as dogs and cats also struggled to survive.

Thousands of residents called for help from the government. However, there were several issues with communications. Meanwhile, according to OCD Asec. Monilla, the government was more than prepared for the Typhoon.

According to a report from Philstar, Monilla said:

We were not caught flatfooted sa event na to. Kung minsan kasi pag nagikot ang mga local officials, hindi kaagad sumusunod ang mga kababayan natin. Mas nagrerely tayo kung ano ang nararamdaman, o prevailing na situation na nararamdaman, rather than the advice

Because of this, Montilla received major flack from Netizens. One said that because of their failed response, Montilla was quick to turn the blame on the residents.

Dahil late at palpak nanaman ang national government, sisihin ulit ang mamamayan. Kung totoo man ‘ayaw sumunod’, edi enforce it in such a way na maiintinidhan nila, and as far as I know fully complacent ang mamamayan when it comes to typhoon evacuation, tanga lang talaga kayo
