Rolly Left 6,000 Homeless After Super Typhoon Rolly
TYPHOON ROLLY IN ALBAY – More than 6,000 individuals from the Albay provinces were now left homeless due to the aftermath of Typhoon Rolly.
According to the Philippines’ Weather Bureau, Rolly was the strongest Typhoon to hit the country in 2020. This led to severe damage in Catanduanes and the Bicol Region. Meanwhile, among the other areas severely affected was the Albay province.
Because of Typhoon Rolly, power restoration in the province could take up to two months. As per the previous article, the local power distributer said at least 77 percent of their powerlines got severely damaged due to the Typhoon.
Furthermore, several establishments and homes along coastlines and riverbanks were left in ruin says Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara. According to an article from GMA, the governor said:
There are about maybe 6,000 homeless because their houses were totally damaged along the coastline, along riverbanks…
Until now, some of the houses are still submerged and they have to stay in evacuation centers
Currently, Albay faces several issues, especially with food and construction materials to build more shelters to accommodate more evacuees. Meanwhile, in terms of water, Bichara said that the province still has enough to sustain evacuees.
However, he noted that the provinces’ calamity fund of P60 million would only last them for two months. “Sa dami ng taong walang bahay, they are all in evacuation center so we need more than that“, the governor added.
