Fighting Rooster Kills Policeman During Raid In Northern Samar
FIGHTING ROOSTER – A policeman was recently killed in a raid on an illegal cockfighting due to the blade of a fighting rooster.
The said activity was a popular blood sport in the country where money is bet on the result of a fight between two roosters armed with bladed spurs, according to a report from ABS-CBN Mews.
The sport has been banned along with other sporting and cultural events to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The incident occurred in the central province of Northern Samar when the fatality, identified as Lieutenant Christian Bolok picked up one of the said roosters as he was collecting evidence during the raid.
Unfortunately, the blade struck his left thigh, damaging his femoral artery, which caused him to bleed to death, according to provincial police chief Colonel Arnel Apud, who also said that it was an unfortunate accident and an unexplainable misfortune.
“It was an unfortunate accident and a piece of bad luck that I cannot explain,”
Apud admitted that this was his first time in his 25 years of service that a rooster killed a cop.
“I could not believe it when it was first reported to me. This is the first time in my 25 years as a policeman that I lost a man due to a fighting cock’s spur.”
Based on the report, during the raid, three people were arrested and two roosters were seized along with two sets of spurs in the raid in San Jose town where the fatality himself was the chief of police.
