Robots Replacing Humans At Faster Rate To Supplement Lack Of Workforce
ROBOTS REPLACING HUMANS – Robots have replaced humans as laborers at a much faster rate due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Because of COVID-19, millions of workers across the globe were forced to remain home. This eventually led to unemployment and a stagnant production line.
As such, large companies invested in developing ways to digitize their work and deploying new technology. Moreover, World Economic Forum (WEF) Managing Director Saadia Zahidi stated: “COVID-19 has accelerated the arrival of the future of work”.
The WEF conducted a study on the rate at which humans would be pushed out of the workforce due to digitization. Unfortunately, the study revealed that humans need to learn new skills in the next 5 years in order to remain relevant.
The study explained that job creation has slowed down while job destruction has accelerated, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, companies worldwide would rather use technology, AI, and other advancements for jobs like data entry, accounting, and administrative duties.
However, there is still good news stemming from this fact. According to an article from ABS-CBN, this leads to over 97 million jobs created throughout the care economy. Furthermore, areas in tech such as artificial intelligence (AI) and content creation would also grow.
Based on a survey within the study, 43% of businesses were ready to reduce the workforce due to new technology. Meanwhile, 41% planned to intensify using contractors and 34% sought to expand the number of laborers due to the advancements of technology.
