Lion King 2 Confirmed With Director Barry Jenkins
LION KING 2 CONFIRMED – Following the success of Lion King, Disney announced greenlighting the sequel to of one of the biggest CGI remakes of 2019.
Obviously, the Lion King has already become a classic. However, with new technology and a star-studded cast including Beyoncé and Donald Glover, the movie certainly brought its own flare to the silver screens.
Currently, Lion King 2 is reportedly being under development with Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. Along with him, Jeff Nathanson, the script lead for the Lion King remake will also be rejoining the team. But, there would be a big shift in the narrative of the story.
According to an article from Screenrant, the new Lion King Movie would be a prequel the highlights the origins of Simba’s father – Mufasa. Aside from that, there’s little details disclosed to the public as of yet.
Along with the Lion King, Alladin is also set for a sequel. Still, having the Lion King do an original prequel could also be seen as good news. Since doing the remakes, Dinsey was criticized for simply re-telling classic stories.
But, with the prequel underway, it would give the audience a unique story in a familiar world. Additionally, Jenkins, being an acclaimed director would the perfect person to lead the team behind the new Lion King movie.
As per the article, Farewell director Lulu Wang, Jenkins’ partner seems to be excited about the new movie, hopefully, fans would too. The new Lion King still doesn’t have much information about its release date. Understandably, the pandemic is a huge factor. But, with production being CGI, we should all be hopeful for a fast release.
