PHILIPPINES GETS SAFE TRAVELS STAMP – The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) gave the Philippines recognition for their global health and hygiene protocols.
According to an article from Philstar, WTTC president and chief executive officer Gloria Guevara stated:
We welcome the Philippines, an incredible destination and home to some of the world’s most beautiful islands, as our 100th destination as well as other popular destinations around the globe such as Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia and Kenya
Guevara added that the stamp symbolized countries that had adopted health and hygiene global standardized protocols. As such, the WTTC aimed to present consumers of “Safe Travels”.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, tourism has become stagnant. Naturally, amid a global pandemic, countries have imposed lockdowns with tourism being one of the most affected industries.
But, with WTTC’s Safe Travel Stamp, they want to gradually gain back the trust of consumers and revive the tourism sector worldwide. As per the article, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said:
The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is delighted to be awarded the WTTC Safe Travels stamp, particularly as we pursue the safe and gradual reopening of our tourist destinations. I wish to thank the WTTC for recognizing our efforts of putting in place policies concerning health, safety, and sanitation protocols, which we have benchmarked with global best practices and aligned with WTTC’s standards
Along with the Philippines, the stamp is being supported by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Currently, the stamp are used by major holiday destinations such as Maldives, Bermuda, Namibia, Uganda, and many more.
