Government To Provide Lodging, Assistance For Frontliners Kicked Out From Homes
GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE LODGING – Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in the Philippines, medical frontliners have been discriminated for their service to the country.
For several months now, there have been reports of nurses, and other frontliners that were kicked out of their apartments, boarding houses, and others because of their jobs. As such, President Rodrigo Duterte assured that the government would help.
Amid the pandemic, one of the most important assets a country has is the frontliners risking their lives for the public. Because of this, Duterte said:
Whether you’re renting a room or a house or whatnot pero dahil nga nasa frontliner ka sa COVID, pinapaalis kayo because of the fear unfounded na mahawa ninyo ang may-ari ng mga bahay at ‘yung mga kasamahan ninyo sa mga dormitoryo
If this happens, you can call directly the office of Secretary Galvez and we will provide you with the necessary billeting and pati pagkain na, and we will choose a place nearest to where you are working
Furthermore, the President said there were many hotels that could cater to the frontliners. Along with this, he said that the government would help pay for their rent.
According to an article from Philstar, Duterte quipped that to prevent frontliners from being kicked out, he would gladly be the one to kick out the landlords themselves. He joked that he only needed the name of the building owner so he could call them out publicly so that when they get sick, they’d get blacklisted by hospitals.
