Way back in 2017, while Banessa was a Grade 12 student at the University of the East, she found out that her mother, working as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), had Stage 2 breast cancer.

Due to the bad news received from her mother, Banessa wanted to graduate immediately especially when her mother shared with her the plan to return to the country when she graduates.

She admitted that she was under pressure as she wanted to do well in her studies. As a result, she was upset when she could not answer an item in their take home quiz.

Despite the trials, Banessa got a high score in that subject. “Kahit mahirap, kakayanin natin for our parents, ‘di ba?”

Unfortunately, her mother did not return home for her graduation because her chemotherapy was not over. She graduated from senior high school with high honors. On August 2019, her mother passed away.

Laban lang!” she added.
