WHAT IS ASTRONOMY – In this topic, we are going to know and learn about the branch of natural science known as astronomy.
It is known as a natural science branch which studies celestial objects and phenomena. It utilizes fields such a mathematics, physics, and chemistry in order to explain their origin and evolution.
This branch’s objects of interest include planets, moons, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and comets. The field is one of the oldest natural sciences since early civilizations made observations of the night sky. Those civilizations include Babylonians, Greeks, Indians, Egyptians, Chinese, Maya, among others.
The term is derived from two Greek words astron, which means “star”, and nomia, which means “law” or “culture”.
