Gov’t To Study Engineers Advice On Motorcycle Barrier
GOV’T TO STUDY ADVICE – Months into the implementation of the motorcycle barrier, the government said they would study the recommendation of Engineers.
Previously, an engineering group voiced their concerns regarding the government’s implementation of a protective barrier for motorcycles. However, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año responded somewhat negatively to the suggestions.
As a response to riders claims that they were in accidents caused by the barriers, Año asserted that it was due to faulty materials. Furthermore, according to an article from Inquirer, the Interior Sec. said this about critics of the barrier:
Ang daming mga magagaling, sabi, ‘We are from the motorcycle associations, cyclists.’ Sabi ko naman, pagdating sa motor naniniwala ako na expert kayo, pero pagdating sa pandemic, huwag kayong magmamarunong kasi kailangan pag-aralan ano ba talaga itong virus na ito
Since it’s implementation, riders from all over the nation have complained about the unnecessary barrier. Moreover, most argued that since the only people allowed to backride were couples, the barrier would serve no purpose as the couples would still come home together.
But recently, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles announced that the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 would coordinate with the society of engineers about the heavily criticized motorcycle barriers.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Nograles said: “Magbibigay sila ng advice sa IATF. Pag-uusapan namin iyon sa IATF“. This would be the first time the IATF would take advice from a group of experts.
