Poland LGBT Protest: 2 Activists Charged For Hanging LGBT Flags Off Statues

POLAND LGBT PROTEST – 2 activists charged for hanging LGBT flags off several statues in Poland.

There has been a progress for lesbian, gay bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) worldwide. Some countries are becoming tolerant while others are becoming more repressive especially the religious countries.

Several countries have passed laws allowing equal marriage and outlawed homophobic hate crimes. However, the battle for LGBT’s legal and social rights in some countries is still ongoing.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, Polish cops said on Wednesday, they arrested and charged two LGBT members with desecrating and monuments after they placed rainbow flags over several statues in Warsaw. They hung flags off statues of the astronomer Copernicus, Jesus Christ, and the Warsaw mermaid.

Protesters also dressed the statues with pink face masks. Spokesman Sylwester Marczak said the activists who are protesting against President Andrzej Duda’s anti-LGBT policies are offending religious feelings.

“Warsaw police have charged two people over the desecration of Warsaw monuments…”

“We as the police are conducting legal proceedings not because someone hung a flag but because by doing so they offended religious feelings and notably desecrated the monument of Christ,” he added.

According to the report, only 29% of Poles support gay marriage. In June, President Duda said the LGBT “ideology” was more destructive than communism.

The gay rights group Stop Bzdurom (Stop The Nonsense) took to Twitter to explain their actions.

“This is an assault! A rainbow. It’s an attack! We decided to act. So long as I’m afraid to hold your hand. So long as there are still vans with homophobic signs on the street,” they said.
