According to PhilStar, ex-Philippine Health Insurance Corp. anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Keith claimed that whe found there is the crime of the year for the said allegations.

“What we found at PhilHealth is the crime of the year due to the syndication of the distribution of cash advance, the interim reimbursement mechanism, and the repeated overpricing of purchased IT equipment,”

Keith said that the agency made unwarranted claims payments to selected private hospitals, which amount to hundreds of millions of pesos.

Keith’s resignation, which cited “widespread corruption” within PhilHealth, urged the Senate, the House of Representatives and Malacañang to conduct a probe into the said issue.

Sen. Ping Lacson claimed that PhilHealth’s Sen. Ping Lacson, which is meant for healthcare institutions hit by calamitous or “fortuitous events,” was not being released to the appropriate hospitals.

Lacson added that PhilHealth released “hundreds of millions” to dialysis centers and maternity care providers, but it was unable to release P19 million to the Ospital ng Maynila, one of the facilities which was accepting COVID-19 cases.

He also said that the agency released P45 million in funds to Braun Avitum Philippines, which is a firm of dialysis centers.

In response, PhilHealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales claimed that the company was turning away patients due to a lack of funds.

This was refuted by Lacson who said that the funds should have not been taken down from the IRM.
