According to ABS-CBN News, Ernest Cu told, CEO and president of Globe Telecom, told the President that it will take at about 28 to 30 permits and over 8 months to build just one tower.

Cu added that the permitting woes are on top of miscellaneous fees that were collected, which also includes tower fees and special use permits.

“Alam mo ‘you can ask Bong or Sonny (Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III) or the generals, kay Sec. Año. Isumbong niyo na lang ng diresto ”

“At ang order ko sa Cabinet ngayon is to really take the, ‘kung pinakamabigat, the most drastic measure that you can find, para magkaintindihan. This is my last mile,”

This came from the President himself, who also threatened telcos to be shut or be expropriated if no improvements are made in December.

The President also jokingly told Cu that he would hang him in one of the telco towers if they fail to make improvements.

“I will hang you in one of your towers. Sabi niya (he said) ‘Mayor, you cannot do that because there is no tower. The local governments are all f*****g it up,”

Based on the report, Department of Interior and Local Government Sec. Eduardo Año said that the aim was to reduce time spent in producing permits to 16 to 20 days.

The government has been aiming for the ease of doing business in order to shorten the permitting stage, which also includes the construction of telco owners.

Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc both said that they are ramping up spending in order to continue expansion plans and to improve services in the country..
