DOH Says They See No Problem In Hiring Chismosas As Contact Tracers

DOH ON CHISMOSAS – According to the Department of Health (DOH), there was no problem with hiring “chismosas” as contact tracers.

Recently, the Philippine National Police sought the assistance of gossipers as part of their contact tracing team. Furthermore, a spokesman from the PNP explained that the Chismosas Only There To “Help” In Contact Tracing – PNP.

Meanwhile, when asked regarding the Chismosa issue, the DOH said they saw no issues with the program. According to an article from Philstar, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated:

Moreover, she emphasized that the departments were all aligned and guided by several policies. Furthermore, she explained that there was a non-disclosure agreement in the contact tracing program.

However, Vergeire said that the monitoring and contact tracing of those under home quarantine are jobs of the DILG, LGUs, and Barangay Health officials. Along with this, the Health Undersecretary said they are bound to monitor possible COVID-19 infected patients in a community.

Currently, there are 73,985 contact tracers in the Philippines with around 8,786 nurses deployed by the DOH to assist in the program. Along with this, Secretary Eduardo Año also proposed additional funding for contact tracing.

The Philippines had reported 76,444 cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 1,879 had died with around 24,502 recoveries from the deadly disease.
