EDSA Busway Top Violators Are Government Employees
GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES TOP VIOLATORS – According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) the top violators of a new rule were government personnel.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, new rules were imposed to make way for more efficient travel amidst the quarantine. However, according to the MMDA, half of the 897 violators of the new EDSA busway rule were from the government.

The new 16-stop busway on the innermost lane of Edsa was opened on June 1. However, since it began operations, authorities reported having flagged 30 vehicles per day for violations regarding new rules.
However, MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago stated that half of them were found to be government personnel in their private vehicles. According to an article from Inquirer, Pialago stated:
Half of those flagged were our colleagues in the government, driving their private vehicles,
As per the article, violators of the new guidelines were supposed to be charged with P1,000. Additionally, there would also be a P150 fee for disregarding traffic signs.
But, Pialago stated that the government officials were only fined P150 due to violation of traffic signs. Afterward, she added that government personnel should set an example to the public while on the road.
We are not singling out our colleagues, but if a private vehicle with government personnel inside was seen on the bus lane, other vehicles would follow suit. This will destroy the very concept of the Edsa busway
The new EDSA busway was created exclusively for city buses and could only be utilized by government workers in emergency vehicles. This included ambulances and government vehicles with sirens and markings.
