DTI ON BARTER – The Department of Trade and Industry has clarified that as long as it’s a personal item/thing, online barter is allowed,

“Hindi pinagbabawalan ng ahensya ang online barter o swapping basta’t personal na bagay ang ipinapalit”. This was stated on a report from Energy FM 107.7 Kalibo.

DTI said that the only things not allowed in online barter are contrabands such as firearms, drugs, and prescribed medicines.

Based on the report, it has been recalled that the netizens slammed the DTI for banning online barter, which prompted them to clarify this issue on this day.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez declared online barter “illegal” yesterday because according to him, it is against the law in most areas in the country, with the exception of some areas in Mindanao such as Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

This was later debunked by Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue who said that the barter trade activity was already recognized by the Civil Code of the Philippines, according to Newspapers.

She further asked Lopez to meet 155 bartering communities in the Philippines. This includes overseas bartering communities who were aiding and giving food for fellow OFWs.
