By definition, physical fitness refers to the ability of the human body systems to work together efficiently . This is in order to allow them to be healthy and perform activities of daily living.

By being efficent here, it means that the person is able to do their daily activities with the least effort possible.

Here are the following components, according to Spps:

  • Cardiovascular Endurance
    • the ability of the heart and lungs to work together in order to provide the needed oxygen and fuel to the body during sustained workloads.
  • Muscular Strength
    • this component refers to the amount of force a muscle can produce.
  • Muscular Endurance
    • refers to the ability of the muscles to perform continuous without fatiguing. Examples are cycling, step machines and elliptical machines
  • Flexibility 
    • this component refers to the ability of each joint to move through the available range of motion for a certain joint.
  • Body Composition
    • this component refers to the amount of fat mass compared to lean muscle mass, bone and organs.
