Also known as Philippine pangolin or locally “balintong“, it is a pangolin which is endemic to the island province of Palawan in the Philippines.

It lives primarily on primary and secondary forests, as well as grasslands.

The Palawan pangolin is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, and Critically Endangered by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development.

Its local name is a Cuyonon term for “one who rolls over” or “one who somersaults” and is also spelled as halintong or malintong.
