Olongapo Judge Junks Inciting to Sedition Case Against Teacher Ronnel Mas

The Olongapo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge junks the inciting to sedition charge agains the public school teacher Ronnel Mas over anti-Duterte post.

According to the report of CNN, Judge Richard Paradeza of the Olongapo City RTC Branch 72 issued its 15-page order on Tuesday, granting Mas ‘motion to quash, where the accused raised the illegality of his arrest and dismissal of the inciting to sedition charge against the Ronnel Mas.

Mas was previously arrested because of his tweet, posted on May 5, where he offers P50 million reward to those who may kill Presidente Rodrigo Duterte.

“I will give P50 million reward kung sino makakapatay kay Duterte,” written on his post.

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents conducted a ‘hot pursuit” operation on May 11 resulting to the arrest of Mas. Assistant State Prosecutor Jeanette Dacpano ruled that the arrest “does not fall within the ambit of warrantless arrest contemplated by the law.”

However, the inquest prosecutor said “Inciting to sedition is not a continuous crime for which the offender may be arrested without a warrant duly issued by the proper authority.” 

Decapano also noted that the “defect” warrantless arrest was “untimely cured” by his confession to the media that he posted a bounty for the life of Duterte.
